The Pros and Cons: Keurig K425 vs K475

In this section, we will summarize what each coffee maker offers and what their shortcomings are.

Keurig K425 Review

With the K425, you get all the features and controls you’d need to brew a delicious cup of coffee. It takes less than a minute to do it too!

The K425 features strength control so that you can switch between milder and stronger coffee. Additionally, the temperature controls let you fine-tune the flavour.

The coloured touchscreen makes it easy to navigate through the controls. You can even use it to program automatic brewing times.

The K425 is compatible with a variety of pod sizes, from 4 oz all the way to 30 oz carafe. That’s up to four cups of coffee at once! Furthermore, its water reservoir has a capacity of 70 ounces. This means you’ll be able to make coffee all day without a refill.

The biggest downside with the K425 is that there are some minor performance issues.

The Keurig K475 is technically the improved version of the K425. It’s got pretty much the same features as the latter with the addition of a water filter kit.

Moreover, K475 does not have any performance issues. This makes it a more reliable option in our opinion.

  • The drip tray is removable
  • Auto Off feature
  • As fast at brewing as the K425

The Difference Between Keurig K425 Vs K475

In this section, we’re going to take a closer look at what each coffee brewer offers in terms of features, performance, design and more.

Design

Visually speaking, there are no apparent differences between the two Keurig models. Both coffee brewers feature the same sleek, modern design. They’re available in the same colours as well.

The coloured touchscreen is a nice addition. It’s wonderful that there aren’t any old-fashioned buttons or knobs to contrast the modern look. There is a slight downside, however. The touchscreens of both coffee makers aren’t as customizable as those fitted into the newer models.

Both the K425 and K475 have the same dimensions (13.63 x 10.43 x 13.45 inches) and weight.

Features

The only difference here is that the K475 comes with a water filter kit whereas the K425 doesn’t.  There are a couple of advantages to having a filter kit:

  • It filters out all sorts of germs from the water. So you don’t always need to pour pre-filtered water into the reservoir
  • It can make the coffee taste better
  • It helps remove chlorine from water.

Performance

The biggest complaint that customers may have about the K425 is the minor performance issues. Common problems include display malfunctions and random error messages being flashed. The K475 reportedly do not have these problems.

Other than that, these coffee brewers are sure to satisfy even the pickiest coffee drinkers. One of the best performance features is the strength control feature, which allows you to brew mild, strong and extra strong coffees without any extra effort.

Both coffee makers can brew a cup in less than a minute. Plus if you ever get tired of coffee, they handle tea, hot cocoa, and cold beverages just as well.

The Auto Off feature in both brewers will automatically shut down the units after a period of inactivity. This cuts down on the amount of electricity being used up.

Ease of Use

It isn’t difficult at all to install either of these coffee brewers. This is true even if you’ve never owned a unit like this before. As with all Keurig products, the manuals are easy to read and plus, the display uses prompts to guide you. You can always contact Keurig’s customer support if there are any major difficulties as well.

However, once they’re set up, it can be a bit tricky for first-time brewers to operate. It might take a few tries to get a firm grasp on what all the settings do.

Prices

Even though it’s the older model, the Keurig K425 will cost you more at $239.95 brand new.

The Keurig 475 appears to be a discontinued model. So your only option would be to buy it renewed/refurbished or second-hand. Renewed K475 costs only $137.

Customer Support

Keurig is a company that’s known for its excellent customer service. It’s never a hassle to deal with them regarding returns or repairs.

However, we really wish the warranty was longer than a year.

Our Verdict: K425 vs K475

The Keurig K425 and K475 are both top notch coffee makers. They can each brew a cup of coffee in about 35 seconds, which is so convenient! They also allow you to experiment with the different strengths settings and temperature control options available via the touch screen.

It’s hard to choose between two coffee brewers that are exactly alike save for just one feature. However, if we had to choose, we’d definitely go with the K475. Here are our reasons:

  • It comes with a water filter kit which gets rid of bacteria and chlorine. It also makes the coffee taste discernibly better
  • It has no performance issues as the K425 does.

Closing Thoughts: Which Coffee Maker Is Right For You?

Even with the lack of water filter and performance bugs, the K425 is still a great coffee maker, especially for its price. If you’d rather own a brand new coffee brewer and don’t mind dropping $239 on one, then perhaps it’s better to purchase a K425.

However, if you’d rather not deal with any sort of malfunction and like having a water filter, then the Keurig K475 single-serve pod coffee machine is definitely for you.
